The Ministry of Tourism announced its readiness for the Salalah Tourism Season which will start on June 21st until Sept. 21st. The season is one of the most important tourist seasons that attract visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate, thanks to the mild weather in the Governorate of Dhofar, the beautiful landscapes and the diversity of tourist destinations and its suitability for the tourism of Omani and Gulf families in particular.
Marhoon bin Said al-Amri, Director General of Tourism in Governorate in Dhofar, said that the number of hotel establishments that were prepared for the Salalah tourist season stood at 34 hotel establishments adding 4.115 hotel rooms, and 6.312 beds to receive the visitors of the season.
He added that the hotel sector in the governorate is ready for the Salalah Tourism Season by adding new hotel facilities, where seven new hotels were added, ranging from two to five stars from May to December last year to boost the tourism sector in the governorate and keeping up with the growth in the number of visitors to the governorate annually.
He said that the Rotana Hotel and Al Fanar Hotel have completed their expansion into Hawana Salalah destination. The four-star Millennium Hotel opened in Al Saadah area. Similarly, the work on the four-star Bilad Point Hotel project has also completed. “We expect that it will open during the current Khareef season. A number of hotels and commercial complexes such as three-star Bristol Hotel will open in Al Saadah area. This is in addition to Al Saadah City Mall, Al Saadah Commercial Complex and Al Waha Mall in the industrial zone,” he added.
He pointed out that the number of tourists who came to Dhofar in 2018, according to statistics of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), was 826,376, comprising an increase of 28.1 per cent over 2017. “We expect that during the coming season, the number of tourists will further increase or would be same at least,” he explained. He said that the conditions in the Sultanate and the Governorate of Dhofar in particular suites for the increase in the number of tourists.
He said that all government organizations concerned with the tourism season were fully prepared to provide comfort to the tourists in the governorate. Recently, a series of meeting of these organizations were held to review the level of preparedness to receive tourists during tourism season. These government organizations and authorities are committed to making the season a success.
