Oman Magazine visits one of Dubai’s most in-demand new dining destinations, Sakhalin, where seafood is central to the experience. Set along the hottest dining destination in town, J1 Beach is where Sakhalin Dubai hits the seafood standard with meticulous precision.
Created by celebrated restaurateur Boris Zarkov alongside chefs Alexey Kogay and Vladimir Mukhin, Sakhalin is inspired by Sakhalin Island in Russia, a place that sits north of Japan and acts as a natural crossroads between two cultures. Already established in global destinations such as Moscow, Bodrum and Istanbul, the concept has now arrived in Dubai, bringing with it an elegant, quietly confident experience for discerning diners. Having experienced Sakhalin in Bodrum, it’s clear the brand shines effortlessly in any setting.

In a city known for its over-the-top venues, Sakhalin Dubai feels so very understated. It allows the food do the talking. Seafood, centre-stage. Service, inimitable.
Here, less truly is more. From the moment you arrive, the welcome is warm, polished and professional. The interiors are awash with crisp white hues and soothing neutral tones, creating a calm, refined atmosphere. The venue unfolds seamlessly, offering an indoor dining room, an outdoor terrace and a beach club at the far end.

Whilst we visited for an evening dinner, some make a day of it. You can start on the beach, move through to lunch or dinner, and finish reclining on the sunbeds; complete with discreet service buttons to call staff at the touch of a finger.
Chef Vladimir Mukhin, the creative force behind Moscow’s MICHELIN-starred White Rabbit, brings his signature finesse to Dubai. While he is known globally for playful, viral creations, such as tiramisu with coffee caviar, Sakhalin Dubai leans into a sophisticated, pared-back expression of his talent. The sourcing, care and quality of the product is second-to-none, with some of the finest seafood catches from Russia and Norway, delivered fresh daily.

Seafood sits firmly at the heart of the restaurant. Live tanks housing fish and crawling crabs set the tone. Guests can explore everything from wagyu and raw bar selections to Japanese sashimi, sushi, and signature rolls, followed by mains spanning fish, meat, and seafood, and an internationally inspired dessert offering. Don’t miss the live tuna cutting right before your eyes, with skilled masters carefully slicing with an artist’s precision. The menu naturally showcases caviar in various forms -from delicate touches enhancing classic plates to bold, innovative creations that elevate the ingredient to new heights. Each dish reflects Sakhalin’s commitment to refined gastronomy, where cultural legacy and modern technique converge.

Begin with a fresh loaf of bread, served with roe-topped gourmet butter; spread generously, and start with local Dibba Bay oysters to set the scene. The starters are light yet flavour-packed, delivering what feels like a healthy indulgence. The crispness of a fresh Azerbaijani cucumber with fresh caviar, surely opened our appetites for what was to follow.
We then devoured the meatiest king crab, just bursting with flavour and so succulent. Absolutely a must-try. As well as the freshest tartar topped with EVOO and out-of-this-world caviar.
If you’re the adventurous type, the prized sea urchins, which you mix with egg yolk, are the ultimate delicacy. For mains, and for the linguine-lovers, the lobster linguine comes with all the summertime feels. Absolutely delectable, served tableside for two or more.

For a sweet finale, we couldn’t resist Sakhalin’s viral tiramisu—an in-house creation featuring gastronomic coffee pearls that burst with the intensity of premium-grade coffee. Anchored by a non-alcoholic rum base, layers of airy sponge and luxuriously rich mascarpone come together in a refined take on the classic.
Anchoring the outdoor space is a striking central bar that effortlessly sets the tone from sun-soaked afternoons to after-dark elegance. The cocktail menu mirrors the international crowd; an artful mix of aperitifs, modern classics, and considered mocktails. One standout was a yuzu and passionfruit mocktail: bright, tangy, and irresistibly moreish.
At Sakhalin Dubai, it’s not just about eating well; it’s about eating thoughtfully. Each dish bursts with flavour while encouraging a renewed appreciation for simplicity and quality ingredients. Chic, refined, and effortlessly cool, Sakhalin Dubai is a culinary hit that feels perfectly at home on J1 Beach.
