A collection of journeys and experiences, in partnership with The Luminaire, has been created exclusively for guests of Mandarin Oriental and can be found in only eight destinations globally, including Mandarin Oriental, Muscat

Mandarin Oriental, Muscat announces the launch of a new private-journey experience that invites guests to leave the well-trodden path and explore the soul of Oman in unmatched comfort and authenticity. As part of the group’s Exclusive Journeys collection, this five-day itinerary has been crafted in collaboration with travel experts The Luminaire and opens the door to a side of the Sultanate seldom explored by travellers.

The journey begins with a stay at Mandarin Oriental, Muscat, set along the city’s coastal Shatti Al-Qurum district. With 103 rooms and 47 suites designed by acclaimed interior architect Xavier Cartron, the resort blends local heritage with contemporary sophistication, offering sweeping views over the Gulf and the rugged Hajar Mountains.
Following a private airport transfer, guests settle into a rhythm that feels distinct to Muscat, balancing a vibrant urban energy with the pull of the desert beyond. Time at the hotel may be spent strolling the landscaped beachfront promenade, relaxing in the resort’s spa, or exploring the cultural landmarks just a short drive away. That evening, a five-course, Silk Road-inspired Omani tasting menu offers a richly layered introduction to the flavours of the region. A restful night’s sleep provides the foundation for the days ahead, with the comfort, discretion and service for which Mandarin Oriental is known.

The transition from city to wilderness begins the next morning as travellers head east toward the Sharqiya Sands, a vast 10,000 square kilometre desert region shaped by centuries of nomadic tradition. In a private desert camp amidst the dunes, Bedouin hosts welcome guests into their world with an authenticity that few visitors experience. After an afternoon of off-road exploration, a traditional meal is prepared over the fire, accompanied by stories that illuminate the customs and resilience of the families who have lived in these sands for generations.
On day three, a fisherman’s boat continues the journey out into the Gulf of Oman. In an unfiltered glimpse of coastal life, guests are invited to try their hand at fishing or simply take in the sea breeze and rugged mountain surrounds, before enjoying the day’s catch prepared in a simple, time-honoured way. As night falls, a second desert camp provides a different perspective of the landscape, with a campfire feast featuring camel meat and Omani spices served beneath the stars.
As dawn breaks on day four, a hot-air balloon ride brings a sweeping, silent panorama of rolling sands before the adventure continues into Wadi Hawir. Guided hiking, swimming and light abseiling into waterfalls and pools immerse travellers in one of Oman’s most scenic natural corridors. On returning to Mandarin Oriental, Muscat, the excitement gives way to calm with a 90-minute spa treatment, private yoga, or a sound healing meditation class – a gentle close to days of exploration.
The journey concludes with a private airport transfer, though guests may choose to deepen their understanding of Oman’s heritage with an optional visit to Nizwa, known for its historic fort and master crafters of the traditional, ceremonial daggers ‘Khanjars’.
Available from 5,903 USD / 2,270 OMR per person (based on two sharing), the experience includes two nights at Mandarin Oriental, Muscat with breakfast and one dinner, two nights in private desert camps, a luxury SUV for the overland journey, local expert guides, desert and marine explorations, a hot-air balloon flight, wadi activities, campfire dining, a spa or wellness experience, and a curated in-room welcome gift.
Crafted for travellers who crave cultural connection, natural wonder, and immersive storytelling, this special experience combines the refined comfort and design of Mandarin Oriental, Muscat, with the wild beauty of Oman’s deserts and coastlines.
