Oman Magazine gets up close and personal with international globetrotter and fashion designer, Gabriella Negromonte. As a mother, stylist, consultant and woman of extreme curiosity, we find out what it is that drives her and how she became the curator and Editor of her very own lifestyle platform, named Style Guide.
Having been born in the countryside of the northwest of Brazil, Gabriella was educated in England and has been hopping the globe since the age of 15. With over a decade of travelling and studying under her belt, and having garnered recognition during her time at Polimoda International Institute of Fashion Design and Marketing in Florence Italy, and the Instituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, Gabriella went on to have her designs published in Mood Magazine, Tatler UK Magazine, La Nazione, La Fiorentina and Fashion TV amongst others. During her five years in Florence she collaborated with Flavio Castellani, Calvin Klein and Saydam Textiles; to name but a few. Back in Brazil in 2008 she built two labels together with her sister; Lela Canela, a young boho and very colorful line and the other label carrying her own name Gabriella Negromonte; a fashion house of haute couture. Her two brands are sold all over Brazil and also at Farfetch.com.
First Fashion Memory? I have some unforgettable ones. One of the first and most remarkable was a George Michael video clip with top models; for me, this was much more than a simple video, it was a statement of freedom.
Stripes or Print? Stripes because they are a classic and I love timeless pieces.
Favorite Accessory? Shoes. I have over 300 pairs. (Perhaps it’s an obsession?)
Which Are Your Favourite Shoe Designers? My dear friend Edgardo Osorio from Aquazzura. Jimmy Choo because their shoes are precious. Alexandre Birman for the comfort and practice of his designs and Lane Marinho, a Brazilian designer who makes the most beautiful handmade shoes.
What Item Could You Not Live Without? A good pair of jeans!
Favorite Fashion Muse? Coco Chanel for her remarkable trajectory. Kate Moss for her unquestionable style. Sienna Miller for bringing back the Boho Style. Diane Kruger for inspiring us with her simplicity and outstanding style.
Which Designer Do You Most Admire? Gabrielle Chanel for her unconditional strength and passion and Armani who built an empire on his own.
Who Are Your Favorite Fashion Houses Of The Moment? Stella McCartney, Chloè, Helô Rocha, Cris Barros and anything Phoebe Philo does! But I also love to discover new designers too.
How Do You Define Your Style? I’m a Boho-chic kind of woman; I think it’s in my veins. However, I can also be very classic too. I love a well tailored piece.
What’s Most Important In Fashion, To Follow Trends Or Have Your Own Style Originality is the most fascinating statement. The best is to add a trend to your own style. I say be faithful to it!
What are you having for lunch today? I cook every day, it’s one of my passions, and it’s also a gift to myself and to my kids to have healthy meals together everyday. Today’s menu: good and fresh pasta with homemade tomato sauce and parmeggiana fillet for my kids. I’m having poached eggs with avocado salad.
What’s The Last Restaurant You Visited? Isabel Restaurant in Mayfair, London.
What’s Your Idea Of The Perfect Weekend? A perfect weekend is around people I love.
Favorite Travelling Destination? That’s a hard one! I’m a globe trotter and I just fall in love with particular things in each place I visit. I adjust really quickly anywhere. Visiting my second home always makes me happy, so Florence is always a fun stop, but also anywhere in the world with my family and friends is an amazing destination to me.
A Remarkable Trip? I had quite a few recently. Since visiting Oman I’ve had the most incredible experiences ever. Oman brought me luck!
Describe your visit to Oman in 3 words… It will take more than 3 words to describe what I felt there. I found myself in Oman and didn’t even know I was lost. I truly believe that I have lived in Oman in another life. I felt home. I have family there and it was very difficult to leave. I’ll be forever connected to Oman and who knows, maybe one day I’ll live there.
