Johnny Rockets has always been among my favourite burger joints in the region, after a long wait, the burger giant has finally arrived in Oman, and we are here for it.
Located in the Oasis building in Al Khoudh, Johnny Rockets is an American family restaurant serving handcrafted burgers, fries and shakes in a unique, colourful atmosphere and vintage interiors inspired by the stylish American diners of the ’50s.
Founded in 1986 with its first outlet in Los Angeles, California, the venue has a variety of signatures and customised burgers such as the famous Smokehouse, The Original, Route 66 and many others. On the vegetarian front, they serve a veggie burger that is a 100 per cent vegetarian blend of fresh vegetables mixed to form a crunchy patty that’s covered with grilled onion, shredded lettuce and tomatoes and topped with their in-house Melrose sauce.
The forte of this place is that its staff sings and dances for its customers and does some heartwarming ‘ketchup art’. It truly brings out your inner child to play.
I started my session with Route 66. Named after the iconic, carefree American highway, The Route 66 burger was juicy and the patty serves an absolute melt-in-the-mouth feel. It was neatly plated and comprised of Swiss cheese, grilled mushrooms, caramelised onions and mayonnaise.
After savouring the Route 66, I dived into the Spicy Houston, which was a masterpiece; spicy jalapeño, pepper jack cheese, crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes are the ingredients that adorned this delicious burger. The meat was moist and packed with lots of flavours, smothered in Johnny Rockets’ special Smokin’ Spicy Houston sauce.
I also tried their loaded fries with cheese and bacon. So crispy and delicious you could easily over-eat.
It’s commendable that Johnny Rockets caters to the needs of its little guests. They have an elaborate kids menu that features nuggets, burgers and milkshakes. The chicken burger from the kids’ menu was polished off in no time by my children. The staff oozed out smiley faces with ketchup especially for them and it was such a treat!
For drinks, we enjoyed their creamy chocolate milkshake that comes with good chunks of chocolate and chocolate sauce. This treat is bliss for milkshake lovers. It was quite satisfying, too.
To end the session on a sweet note, we had their scrumptious New York Cheesecake and another chocolate cake for good measures. Both tasted lovely.
I am truly happy that Johnny Rockets is now in town. It should be your new go-to burger joint. Their single burger is priced at OMR2.9 and the double patty at OMR3.9. Head over there and try it yourself. You won’t regret it.
