Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sultanate of Oman will host a series of training camps with several international professional athletes in the spring.
Cycling enthusiasts and triathlon fanatics can experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim, run or ride side-by-side with Tour de France champion, an Olympic medallist and Ironman titleholder while discovering the incredible landscapes and facilities the Sultanate of Oman has to offer sports devotees.
Guests booking the experience will be treated like pros during each training camp, with opportunities to improve their skills and learn more about professional techniques.
February 2019: Swim-Bike-Run with Arnaud Selukov
Arnaud Selukov from France takes participants through their paces from 21 to 24 February 2019, which includes question-and-answer sessions, trail running, group-cycling safety signalling, open-water swimming, hydration and nutrition awareness.
An expert in his field, he has done 35 full Ironman-distance races with a personal record of 8:56 at the age of 47. He has also completed three Ultraman events, with a third in Hawaii at the World Championship, plus a second in Canada and a win in Australia.
March 2019: Cycle Hundreds of Kilometres with Olympian Andreas Klöden
A paradise for road cyclists, the resort offers cyclists a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend three days tackling Oman’s renowned climbs with 2000 Olympic bronze medallist Andreas Klöden, whose other major achievements include placing second at the 2004 and 2006 Tour de France.
During the weekend, from 21 to 24 March 2019, riders will be treated like pros and undergo pre-ride morning briefings complete with route guides. Post-ride, guests can take advantage of the resort’s spa and leisure facilities, before sitting down to dine with Klöden to reflect on a memorable day of cycling.
April 2019: The Ultimate Triathlon Training Camp with Ironman Jürgen Zäck
Guests can swim-bike-run with Jürgen Zäck from 4 to 7 April 2019. Participants will complete running drills and brick sessions, endure open-water swimming and core strengthening, and build stamina with three- to four-hour-long bike rides all led by Zäck.
Known as the second-fastest man in history over the Ironman distance, he dominated many of the toughest races in the world during the 1990s as one of the first to go under eight hours. A five-time winner of the Ironman Germany, Zäck came in second at the world’s most famous triathlon in Hawaii.
Nestled between the dramatic backdrop of rugged mountains and the pristine waters of the Omani Gulf, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is a fully integrated destination resort spread across two hotel wings, Al Waha and Al Bandar.
