I have always been a fan of the Rotana Group of Hotels. They are neither over-the-top nor underplayed; it’s everything you could wish for, perfectly balanced.
My recent stay at Amwaj Rotana in the stylish neighborhood of JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) was exactly as the above. Escaping the bustling Dubai airport, I made my way through ongoing traffic and approached the up-market, beachfront lifestyle destination known as ‘The Walk’. Lamborghinis, Bugattis, Maseratis and Rolls Royces cruised down the famous strip to the backdrop of international fashion boutiques, multi-cuisine restaurants and the well maintained Jumeirah beach. I stepped out of the taxi and was instantly welcomed by the bellboys with their warm and bright smiles; a recognizable Rotana touch.
The reception presents a marbled foyer with ultra-modern architecture, seamlessly blending with traditional Emirati interiors. Grace, who was my personal receptionist, checked me in within a few minutes and led me to my room on the 6th floor. Initially I was disappointed, as I had expected a higher floor (the hotel has 25 floors). How could a room on the sixth floor offer sprawling views of the ocean? Well it certainly did. The minute I entered the room, I was pleasantly taken aback. The elegant, large Premium Twin Room with full view of the cool blue, glistening sea more than compensated my initial disappointment. The views of the ocean and the uber-chic JBR Walk were simply amazing.
The room itself was quiet roomy. Carpeted with wood-paneled flooring, pastel coloured walls and modern décor; enhanced by elegantly framed contemporary art works. Together with a well-stocked fridge, a ‘snack cabin’ and well-furnished bath accessories, the room was one for indulgence and sheer relaxation. A large size queen bed spelt luxury with orthopedically designed beds paired with ultra-fine cotton duvets and soft pillows; heavenly. I also had a breeze through of the in-room dining menu, which covered the major cuisines from Continental to Arabian to Asian.
Wanting to explore the hotel further, I went to the poolside. Palm trees surrounding the large swimming pool, perfectly brought in the illusion of an oasis. With kids splashing around and guests sun-tanning, I was tempted to jump into the water right there and then; I resisted and opted for the cooler rays at sunset.
Amwaj Rotana’s food offering is extensive. The hotel offers something for everyone; Italian American, Japanese and continental inspired restaurants for guests to enjoy during their stay. I can personally vouch for the hotel’s breakfast offering, with a spread so sumptuous that the options were more than generous. Several choices of pastries, bread, fruits, juices and international morning delights. Sadly, the vegetarian options were a little limited; so I couldn’t quite enjoy the feast as much as my carnivorous peers.
On the whole, I loved my experience at the hotel. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The aesthetics of the interiors were pleasant and beautiful with comfortable and cozy rooms with gorgeous views.
All in all, the Amwaj Rotana chooses subtlety and relaxed luxury. It exceeds your expectations. I will most definitely be back for an extended stay, to gaze at the concrete beauty of the city once more.
