Lovers of exploring new restaurants in town, rejoice. We have a new addition to your list of best diners to try in town, called Jam Rock, a destination for Jamaican food in Oman (and probably the only authentic mom-and-pop type of diner that’s dedicated to serving Jamaican dishes).
Located in Ma’abela, Seeb, Jam Rock is a cosy cafe that oozes a homely vibe, and it will surely make its way into the top list of must-visit places in town, serving piquant flavours from the celebrated country of Jamaica.
The owner of the restaurant has an interesting concept of serving his homemade-style food with lots of passion, and at an affordable price. Though it serves juicy burgers, it is not your typical burger joint; it has Jamaica written all over it, with flavours that will truly entertain your taste buds. Signature Jamaican dishes such as jerk chicken, escovitch fish, marinated chicken wings and the country’s favourite delicacy: Oxtail — are all on offer.
We had the pleasure of exploring their menu, which has quite a lot to offer, but we definitely have some of our favourite picks.
We enjoyed savouring the jerk chicken, which is a popular dish in Jamaica, made with Jam Rock’s secret spices, and cooked on a stone. The meal comes with fries and homemade coleslaw. This dish was quite appetising. We paired it with local flat bread but can be paired with rice as well and taste just as delicious.
Escovitch fish is another highlight that should not be missed. This briny plate is made of a simple-yet-delicious fish prepared with Jamaican herbs, white onion and a bunch of Scotch Bonnet peppers. The dish sits among the best offerings at Jam Rock. We cleared the plate so fast and ordered another one to-go.
The stars of the show are definitely the chicken wings. Tender on the inside, crispy on the outside and packs a lot of flavours. The wings are served with four different sauces and dips. Go for the spiciest one called ‘the suicide’. It’s literally the bomb.
They also have their signature Jam Rock burgers, which are different from the regular ones. They may result in quite a messy affair but we love it. It’s perfectly sized and tastes heavenly good.
Jam Rock is a lovely escape for those looking to explore new flavours in Seeb. We are glad it’s not another burger hop in Oman. This is the real deal. The Jamaican haven beyond the airport. Don’t forget to greet the owner and chef, Mr. Mustafa whose charming personality adds a unique character to this wonderful joint.
