As the pace of life in Oman accelerates, the needs and preferences of its residents continue to shift. Al-Futtaim IKEA, committed to enhancing everyday living, has introduced its FY2025 collection, with a particular focus on the vital connection between multifunctional homes and sleep quality. This year’s offerings are designed to address the unique sleep challenges faced by people in Oman, highlighting the crucial role of home environments in promoting restful sleep and overall well-being.
A shift in focus, from multifunctionality to sleep quality
The study highlights growing concerns among Oman’s residents about sleep quality. Just over half of the respondents are satisfied with their sleep and feel rested in the morning. However, only about 57% report getting enough sleep daily and maintaining good daytime alertness. Alarmingly, just 8% of respondents reported not having trouble falling asleep, while 65% experienced difficulties drifting off at least once a week. The top reasons cited for insufficient sleep include stress, social media, a poor sleeping environment, late dinners, erratic work schedules and even taking care of a baby. These findings underscore the importance of creating home environments that mitigate these issues. Whether through carefully selected furniture, optimized room layouts, or an overall ambience that fosters relaxation, Al-Futtaim IKEA is committed to helping Oman’s residents create living spaces that promote better sleep
The impact of sleep deficits on Daily Life
Sleep deficits are a widespread concern among Oman’s residents, with all participants reporting they miss sleep each week. Specifically, some miss a few hours, while others miss between four to seven hours, eight to fourteen hours, or even more than fourteen hours. These deficits significantly impact daily life, leaving many feeling tired, irritable, anxious, or depressed. Only a small fraction report that poor sleep doesn’t affect them. The cognitive effects are also notable, with many experiencing reduced work performance, decreased concentration, or memory issues.
Sleep habits and rituals
Sleep habits and rituals play a significant role in how Oman’s residents approach their rest. Many respondents reported a higher likelihood of dozing off in situations such as after lunch while resting in the afternoon, reading, traveling as a passenger, or watching TV. Additionally, 54% of respondents claim they take naps during the day, indicating a common strategy to compensate for lost sleep.
Rituals before bed are also prevalent, with four out of five respondents reporting specific activities that help them prepare for sleep. Popular rituals include watching videos or TV, listening to the radio, music, white noise, or podcasts, drinking tea, and using earplugs or blindfolds.
Sleep Essentials – Priorities for a good night’s rest
When it comes to creating the ideal sleep environment, respondents in Oman highlighted several key factors. Overall comfort was deemed the most important, followed by air temperature, air quality, sound control, light management, and maintaining a decluttered and well-furnished space with calming colours. These priorities are guiding Al-Futtaim IKEA’s approach to product development, ensuring that homes in Oman are equipped to support restful sleep and well-being.
The brand has unveiled six essential solutions for a good night’s sleep, based on an in-depth sleep study. To enhance air quality, the FÖRNUFTIGair purifier is equipped with a particle filter and an optional gas filter, effectively removing odours, pollen, and pollutants such as dust, smoke, and chemicals. For comfort, the VALEVÅG mattress offers firm support with individual pocket springs and comfort zones, ensuring an even distribution of body weight. Sound is addressed with the VAPPEBY speaker lamp, perfect for creating a relaxing. To help children feel secure at bedtime, the TÖVÄDER night light provides a soothing glow in five different colours. The PAX wardrobe system promotes a clutter-free environment, crucial for restful sleep, with its customizable storage options. Finally, the NATTJASMIN duvet cover set, made from a soft cotton/lyocell blend, helps regulate temperature for a comfortable night’s rest. Together, these solutions demonstrate Al-Futtaim IKEA’s commitment to improving sleep quality across the region.
