It‘s that time of the year when it‘s natural to feel a sense of national pride. This 18th of November marked His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s birthday while also commemorating the 49th National Day of Oman.
What is Oman‘s national anthem?
Oman‘s national anthem is As-Salām as-Sultānī, which in English translates to a Royal Salute. The anthem was written by Rashid bin Uzayyiz Al Khusaidi and was composed by a Briton James Frederick Mills in December of 1932.
What is the history behind the creation of the Omani flag?
Adopted by the royal decree on the 17th of December 1970, the flag consists of three colors: red, white, and green. The red is in honor of the battles fought to gain independence from foreign invaders. The white symbolizes security and safety, and the green is for continued fertility and greenery of the land. Most importantly the flag displays an emblem of two swords with an Omani Khanjar, in reference to the traditional weapons used in the 18th century.
