Wanderlust is the desire to travel, savouring the travelling as much as the final destination. This is the mood of Pennyblack’s Spring-Summer 2019 collection. It brings together inspirations, colours and motifs all over the world bringing them into an urban scenario.
The journey starts with a blue and white “passport stamp” pattern on easy wear separates and denim. Alongside the denim, more structured flowing fabrics and basket weave highlight aspect and colours, skimming the confines between casual and tailored.
The Spring outerwear features parkas and trench coats and focus is on the blouson with technical mesh inserts. Sand-coloured shades are matched with black and white graphic patterns: maxi-stripes, fishnet motifs with micro-macro variations and palm profiles. Flashes of coral red bring the palette to life. Wide trousers and miniskirts are combined with loose-fitting knitwear.
As one head towards warmer climates, layers can be shed. Depending on the occasion, the maxi-cardigan can be worn as a dress or outerwear. The long, light, airy shirt dresses become lightweight duster coats, to be worn open over tops and flowing trousers. Watercolour floral motifs bloom on ivory or pastel backgrounds, sometimes combined with patchwork. Designs inspired by henna tattoos spread out in black, nude and white. Light knitwear, brightened by very fine lamé threads, is worn over stripes and pleats.
It is time for unstructured tailoring. The re-designed black on white pinstripe loses its harshness on easy-fit double-breasted trouser suits, rounded off with striped T-shirts. A modern, laid-back elegance takes shape in flowing, elongated silhouettes, outlined by obi, leather belts. Designs inspired by traditional majolica create scarf patterns on the dress panel and on the matching top-trousers.
In summer, the amaranth red and beige pyjama stripes give a feeling of freedom over the trompe-l’oeil jumpsuit. Rough linen for the blazer-gilet and coat-shirt dress, always accompanied by loose-fitting trousers. Royal blue is paired with bright white to design Mandala motifs in all-over prints, embroidery and Broderie anglaise pattern, to round-off a prêt-à-voyager wardrobe.
Every look is completed with Texan boots, braided effects on slippers and bucket bags, and geometrical canvas shoppers.
