From five-star breakfasts to simple dessert corners, waffles rule our menus. Sweet or savoury, light or heavy, dipped in chocolate or topped with cheese, these versatile golden brown puffy squared treats need no introduction. In Oman, we have been noticing quite a rise in waffle domination across town, as many shops and pop-up stores serve their take on this Belgian classic with various (and sometimes interesting) toppings.
Here are three waffle places you need to try in Muscat:
1. The Crepe Cafe
The Crepe Cafe is pretty much everything you could ever want in a waffle cafe. The place is one of the popular spots (and probably the oldest) that serves top-notch desserts for lovers of all things sweet. With many varieties, quality ingredients and precious baking. Fresh strawberries, bananas, whip cream, and drizzles of hot caramel are some of the toppings on offer, served with a scoop of ice cream. Though many places have recently opened in town, this particular cafe is atop our list for waffles. Make sure to visit their Shatti Al Qurum branch; the ocean view is to die for.

2. Sweets
Put your best fork forward; the name says it all. This new dessert cafe is hitting all the sweet notes. Its waffles are simple, moist and have just the right amount of sweetness, drenched in saucy toppings of your choice, which includes Nutella, lotus flavour, Kinder, saffron, and pistachio to name a few. They also serve waffles on a stick, served with a side of dips and colourful fruits.

3. Retro
Retro’s ambience takes me back to my good old grandma’s kitchen, it has a cosy vibe that’s perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Their mini waffles are served in a rectangular with a ton of varieties for delectable toppings such as cookies and cream, cheesecake, and coco pops cereal. Make sure to try their cold beverages and exotic coffees, too.
