A mountain retreat may seem like the furthest thing from your mind when it comes to finding adventure in life. After all, when you hear the words ‘mountain’ and ‘retreat’, you’re probably not thinking about a thrill a minute, but that would be a mistake. It turns out that a jaunt off to the mountains isn’t all big beards, flannel, and living off of the grid. Today’s mountain retreat is all about access to modern amenities while still enjoying the great outdoors.
The big difference in discovering adventure on a mountain retreat is that you have to do a little work. The red carpet is there, but you’ll need to unfurl it. This is actually a good thing. There is a level of customisation to one’s getaway, a luxury not afforded to most trips taken.
If you’re hoping for a new take on adventure a bit off the beaten path, here are a few ways to make your next mountain retreat a blast:
Have An Idea of What You Want
The idea of a retreat can be getting away from things & exploring a remote area that isn’t heavily influenced by the outside world. For others, it is more of a luxurious trip filled with spa treatments and chic décor. Both exist, so find what speaks to you the most.
Compare Town Size & Population
Some towns have populations in the hundreds and can be traversed (by car) in a few minutes. This makes for an easier time getting around, especially on foot. You also have a chance to meet the locals, which is great for getting some insight into the best places to check out for a good time and a good meal. Being in a smaller town also means giving your senses a break from the usual noise pollution to which they are subjected. If you’re looking to really get away, this may be the ticket.
Breakdown of Activities & Downtime
Nothing sullies a vacation than trying to do too much at one time. You get up ridiculously early, earlier than you would for work, and you’re bound, set, and determined to go through an itinerary that leaves little room for just taking it easy. You want your retreat to have a good balance of things to do, as well as just being able to kick back & dig on nature.
Length of Your Getaway
It’s the one thing that most people don’t think about when taking a trip, but you need to figure out how long your trip actually is from start to finish. Factor in how long you’ll travel to get to your destination and how far your lodging is from the action. Not taking the time to do this can lead to a rushed experience, and that’s not your goal.
You may be asking yourself, ‘How does any of this equal to finding adventure on a mountain retreat?’ The truth is that adventure is a relative term, and one that varies from person to person. The one thing we all have in common, however, is time and how we organize it. Finding the fun things to do on a trip isn’t hard to do, but understanding how best to plan your trip to maximise your fun is where the struggle lies. Plan well, and your next mountain retreat will be one for the ages.
