Amal Al Raisi’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection radiates sophistication and timeless elegance that signifies the richness of her designs.
The designer’s latest collection draws inspiration from Al Baleed, a UNESCO world heritage site in Oman. This archaeological site used to serve as a trading hub between the West and the Far East. Just like that, this collection features traditional designs with a modern twist to connect the East and the West. To pay homage to this rich history of Oman, Amal created unique prints to outline the port’s historic story featuring shapes of the continents to enhance the nautical backdrop of this muse.
The Spring/Summer 2019 collection is dedicated to bridging the gap between the East and the West. Like every collection, this too is derived from her patriotism and devotion to her country. Her passion to put Oman on the international fashion map is evident in this collection with the use of colours such as spiced apple depicting the desert, blended with shades of green such as Eden green, vibrant green and desert sage along with hues of mellow rose to create a sense of femininity.
To illustrate the workings of this old port, Amal works with elements derived from different countries such as India, China and Persia. Long flowy kaftans and skirts made from soft fabrics blended with these symbolic elements portray the culture of Oman and its relationship with the rest of the world.
The desert rose, merchant scale and a Chinese coin from the Tang Dynasty are a few of the elements that symbolise the journey this region embarked on to become a trading hub. Embellishments which are Amal Al Raisi’s signature feature, are added for a final touch of luxury. Intricate gold and green sequins are scattered on kaftans while traditional patterns are recreated for an exquisite effect.
