There is nothing worse than polluting an environment in which living organisms and endangered species thrive in, which makes preserving pristine wilderness a global responsibility. In Oman, these creatures and their ecosystem are perfectly conserved in established areas that have become must-visit attractions for avid travellers and the local dwellers. Today, the country boasts 18 nature reserves, with the latest being Jabal Qahwan Nature Reserve and Bar Al Hikman Wetland Reserve in Al Wusta part of Oman. Here are three places you should not miss visiting when in town:
Dimaniyat Islands Nature Reserve
Located between the wilayat of Seeb and Barka, this internationally recognised nature reserve comprises 9 islands situated 18 kilometres offshore. The place is known for having rare aquatic life, untouched beauty and clear azure water. The islands are also a home to a large number of sea turtles that lay their eggs and nest there, as well as a magnet for migratory and indigenous birds. Diving enthusiasts who seek to explore the underwater are promised an experience of a lifetime, as Dimaniyat Islands are one of the region’s best diving spots.

Wadi Sireen Reserve
This animal reserve is located in the Eastern part of Al Hajar Mountains, about 45 kilometres South of Muscat. Though you may find a number of species, the place is famous for protecting Animals the Arabian Tahr (a unique deer that lives among the mountain cliffs and rocky slopes of Oman and is considered one of the world’s rarest animals). Its presence in the Arabian Peninsula is limited to the mountains of Oman, making them a must-watch for animal lovers.

Turtle Reserve
Known to be frequented by tourists, Ras Al Jins Turtle Reserve is blessed with stretches of clean beaches extending from Ras Al Hadd to Masirah Island in the Al Sharqiyah region, and are considered home to green turtles, a rare species that returns every year to lay its eggs on the same beach where it was born decades ago. How fascinating.
This quiet sanctuary for turtles secures the continued survival of these beautiful creatures. Come here during the breeding season and marvel at these beach-loving reptiles.
