Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa marked the start of the festive season with the annual tree lighting ceremony at the courtyard location of Al Bandar hotel on Thursday 14 December.
Reaching a height of 10 metres, the outdoor tree is among the tallest in Oman and is beautifully decorated with 1,265 baubles and colourful lights measuring 700 metres. The tree is also adorned with 65 pieces of gingerbread men, ribbons and stars.
The festive event was attended by hotel guests and residents of Muscat, while Hi FM’s Deputy Content Director and Presenter Chris Birks conducted the countdown to the light switch on.
Mr. Ziad Zubair did the honours of switching on the tree lights, while Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa General Manager, Mr. Juergen Doerr delivered a short speech to guests.
“Christmas is a celebration of sharing and caring with family and friends. We have a host of activities, meals and events planned throughout the festive season and look forward to welcoming guests to Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa over the coming weeks,” he said.
Resort Executive Chef Shane O’Neill and his culinary team delighted guests with a traditional spread of festive-themed sweets including stollen bread, gingerbread cookies, yule log cakes and the signature winter-holiday beverage, glühwein.

The Philippine School Muscat student’s choir and the resort’s own colleague choir filled the fresh air cheerful festive atmosphere with popular carols.
This season, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah spreads the festive cheer with a host of opportunities to eat, drink and be merry, including special dining offers on 24 and 25 December.
