The Royal Opera House is about to make history. For the first time ROHM will bring a popular music megastar to Muscat – Cliff Richard, the world-renowned British singer and musician. Signing Cliff Richard is a tremendous coup for the Royal Opera House Muscat. His performance will be a phenomenal once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone who comes to the concert.
Knighted for his remarkable contribution to popular music, Sir Cliff Richard has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, with many gold and platinum hits. Amazingly, in 2013 Cliff Richard released his one-hundredth album, which was soon certified gold – The Fabulous ‘in’ Roll Songbook. In the UK, sales of his singles have gone past twenty-one million, making Cliff Richard the third-top-selling artist in UK Singles Chart history, surpassed only by the Beatles and Elvis Presley. And Sir Cliff Richard has gone beyond ordinary Pop Star status with more than one hundred performances at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall.
During the course of more than five decades, Cliff Richard has gone from strength to strength, his music changing and flowing with the times. In the 1950’s, Cliff Richard was positioned as a rebellious Rock and Roll singer in the style of Little Richard and Elvis Presley. With his talented back-up group, The Shadows, Cliff Richard dominated the British popular music scene in the pre-Beatles period of the late 1950s to early 1960s. His 1958 hit single, “Move It“, is often described as Britain’s first authentic Rock and Roll song. John Lennon declared that “before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music.” Over time, this continuously innovative musician defied classification and became simply Cliff Richard.
With his latest album, Just… Fabulous Rock ‘n Roll, which was recorded in the legendary Blackbird studio in Nashville, Tennessee, Cliff Richard brings the Golden Age of Rock and Roll into the twenty-first century with smash hits from the fifties, such as “Roll Over Beethoven” (Chuck Berry), “Great Balls of Fire” (Jerry Lee Lewis), and “Sweet Little Sixteen” (Chuck Berry). Thanks to current technology, in a spectacular track on this album, Cliff Richard sings a duet with ‘The King of Rock and Roll’, Elvis Presley. Cliff joins Elvis in belting out a song from 1957 that is etched in Rock and Roll history like none other – the instantly iconic “Blue Suede Shoes”. The album also features Cliff Richard’s early hit from the classic Rock and Roll era – “Move it”. To bring it all together, the album closes with a new and original song by Cliff Richard, “It’s Better to Dream”.
Sir Cliff Richard will appear on stage at the Royal Opera House Muscat on Saturday 7th October at 7:00 pm. This is a show that is not to be missed. For further information, consult the ROHM website: www.rohmuscat.org.om
