Midday, in Dubai’s promised heat, heads turn to the sound of our heels. Body-con and ironed shirt. Are they mad or are they going somewhere a little bit special? Atlantis, The Palm. Special, yes. On arrival, there’s an interesting walk through excitable tourists, designer boutiques, marble staircases and Sea Life. We were virtually making our way through an aquarium with windows on every corner for a nosey. Selfies with sting ray shared nationally.
Greeted with bubbles and a professional photo on a red carpet, albeit a cardboard cut-out, we knew we were in for a treat.
[metaslider id=5328]We were shown to our table and from that point, we were left to it, apart from the frequent top-ups from the waiter. We took this opportunity to explore the buffet; tipple-injected pineapples, bendy straws in melons, and every cuisine imaginable. We ate and laughed our way through four hours of pure indulgence, until we sought something else to happen. Perfectly timed, up-beat, funky music started to play. The dancing gradually spread across the restaurant, until everyone was up, silhouettes against the window’s blazing sun. The tone for the afternoon was set.
We were recognised by the photographer as we were leaving, who had our 100AED (£20GBP) photograph in hand; of course, we couldn’t resist our red-carpeted snap. If you’ve ever craved the lifestyle of a celebrity, this one’s for you. A limo would’ve done, but a coach conveniently took us to the glamorous after-party in another part of The Atlantis, and the fun never stopped.
