Walking to our couples’ massage, the setting was notably calm and serene. A Thai oasis of peace perched elegantly on The Palm. A mere 10 minutes from the bustling cosmopolitan megapolis that is Dubai.
Anantara The Palm provides a beautiful contrast to the busy nature of Dubai’s tourism scene; it’s almost as if you have left the Emirates and entered an island of your very own. Hotel guests can be seen bathing on the decks of luxurious villas, reflecting mirror-image onto the water. Decadent thai huts seemingly kept afloat by pristine, bright aqua. So still, it didn’t even ripple.
We arrived at the largest of the wooden huts, the Spa; fuscia petals welcoming us in. Our ritual began as the masseuses took us into their trained hands, offering robes and slippers as we planned our treatment for the morning. Softly spoken, they talked us through the options of pressure application, scent, and most importantly, what ailments our bodies sought relief from.
Whether you’re seeking pure relaxation or stress relief, the wide variety of Ayurvedic, holistic and deep tissue massages means there’s something for everyone . Having indulged in a week of brunching, sunbathing and retail therapy, we felt our stress levels had smoothly diminished, so we opted for a firm application, but mostly the sheer pleasure of a massage.
Our feet were immersed in wordly aromas, as we sat back and assured our experts that the temperature was better than okay. Side by side, we lay down on sumptuous beds, listening to delicate melodies as our chosen oils were prepared. Starting on hands and arms, and finishing with the upper neck, every muscle was awakened, invigorated and nurtured. We left as content as the untroubled waters surrounding us.
