For many centuries, due to its strategic position on the trade routes for frankincense, myrrh and other goods, Oman’s architecture has been subject to the influx of a variety of styles and influences – Indian, East African, Portuguese and British. Yet despite these influences, shared with neighbouring countries, Oman’s architectural style remains distinct from the rest of the Arabian peninsula. There is a pristine quality in the art of its architecture, imbuing it with a spirit of minimalism and austerity, qualities which have defined the extent and form of the architecture.
Examining the unique architecture to her native Oman, Amal Al Raisi found inspiration in the captivating Arabic arches, interpreting the mystical designs into her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection. Capturing a timeless sensibility through fluid silhouettes and luxurious details, the collection exudes modern femininity.
The sophisticated color palette consists of white, blush, burgundy and navy while fine pinstripes in silver and bronze illustrate the graphic lines representative of Omani architecture. Fabrics are contrasted to modern effect in delicate cotton, velvet and mesh. Silhouettes are relaxed yet elegant with a nod to pyjama dressing. Intricate embellishments depict Omani archways and architecture in fresh oases hues.
In an exclusive collaboration with Kopenhagen Fur, together they developed charming fur details, which are scattered throughout the collection in the form of pom poms, collar adornments and embellishment features.
