The world’s most widely watched factual TV programme, Top Gear filmed at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort in Oman in January as part of a thrilling race across the Arabian Peninsula. The programme, which is watched by 350 million people in over 100 countries worldwide, aired on BBC Two in the U.K. on 26th March and featured Top Gear hosts Matt LeBlanc and Chris Harris as they raced against each other to compare travelling for a weekend away to an exclusive resort in the mountains in the most luxurious car on the market with travelling in luxury by other modes of transport.
During the show, the presenters sped across the desert to determine the fastest mode of transport – a £2 million Bugatti Chiron (1500HP) or a combination of a Bentley Mulsanne EWB, a Ducati 1299 Superleggera motorbike, a powerboat and a Honda Jet. The final stages saw the Bugatti and Superleggera go head-to-head, navigating 20 miles (32km) of steep, winding road up Al Jabal Al Akhdar mountain, with breathtaking scenes showcasing the spectacular views and landscape as well as highlighting the accessibility between Dubai and Oman. The programme culminated with former Friends star Matt LeBlanc celebrating his win on Diana’s Point, a spectacular cliff-edge platform at the luxury resort. The team then went on to spend the night at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, recuperating with dinner and a special Top Gear themed cake.
The filming follows several other supercar events that have taken place at the recently opened resort, including a test drive of the latest Lamborghini Huracán and a Porsche Club Oman group drive for members. With the magnificent Hajar Mountains providing a stunning backdrop, the resort is proving to be a top choice for luxury car and product launches, which can easily be organised by the team with advance notice.
