Oman Magazine visits The Palace Oman to try out their range of international dishes; from homemade soups to Italian pizzas to delicate seafood & Eurasian cuisines…Positioned next to the newly launched ‘Panorama Mall’ in Lamar Boushar building, lies an unexpected hall of grandeur and gourmet delights, in the form of The Palace Oman.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming woman, with bucket loads of charisma and a broad smile. We later realized that this budding concierge is in fact, the owner and manager of the restaurant, Ms Rawan Al Nazwani.
You can tell a lot about a restaurant within the first few seconds of arriving and we’re pleased to say that this was just the start.
In the background, we could hear the gentle tinkling of a baby grand piano, which was in fact being played by an incredibly talented fourteen year old Omani boy. The whole place oozed familiarity and a sense of home, whilst flirting with the theme of opulence and regality, leaving no room for pompousness or stiff upper lips.
To the delight of many guests, there is a photo wall equipped with crowns, velvet embellished robes and the all important ‘mirror-mirror’ where diners are welcomed to become the Kings and Queens with their very own professional photograph.
The walls, adorned in baroque masks, countless mirrors and old keys, weave the tales of the palace and it’s desired brand concept.
Upon being seated at our table, we were offered a welcome drink and treated no differently from that of a 5 star hotel restaurant. With courtesy and elegance; a fine fit for the theme throughout.
The greatest difference, is that this restaurant is inexpensive and utterly affordable, allowing everyone to experience great food, hospitality and quality for the same price as any other mainstream restaurant that you might expect to find in Oman. Here, we give our thoughts on the food offering:
Mix Platter
Honey Shrimps & Indian Chicken Paratha Bites were out of this world! Simply moreish and full of flavour. The Calamari & Buffalo Chicken Bites were nice and as you would expect.
Nachos
When you order nachos, you expect the same processed cheeses and gooey sauces, riddled with sugar and nastiness. However, this was a complete win for us at Oman Magazine. Melt-in-your-mouth Nachos, with yummy warm red kidney beans, fresh guacamole and the freshest sour cream served like creme fraiche. Thick and cool and gorgeous paired with the white cheese and fresh coriander toppings. We give this one full marks for flavour!
Grilled Tuna Steak with Wasabi Mash
The vegetables were served to perfection and the wasabi mash with edamame beans were equally sublime. The tuna itself was a little overcooked, but would recommend you order this medium to ensure a juicy fillet throughout.
Stuffed Chicken Breast
Sundried tomatoes, spinach, cream cheese all rolled within a moist chicken breast, broiled and sliced. What’s not to like? Served with homemade mashed potato and summer vegetables cooked Al Dente and bursting with freshness. Would definitely recommend.
All in all, a relaxing, un-stuffy environment where you can receive 5 star service without the price tag. A lovely venue for private functions, romantic dinners and family get-togethers. We will certainly be visiting again sometime soon!
