Belmond Sanctuary Lodge introduces The PACHAMAMA Tribute Ceremony

by Lucas Raven

A sensory journey like no other.

Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel located next to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu, invites guests to discover ancient Peruvian traditions in a mystical setting while enjoying the sophistication and service of a Belmond property.

Rituals from Andean communities to honor the Pachamama (Quechua for Mother Earth) which is an important deity since the time of the Incas, take place all year, but most especially in August the coldest month in the Andes and before the sowing season.

Whether arriving in Machu Picchu by foot from the Inca Trail or by train, as a couple or with friends, guests are ensured a memorable experience with our tribute that will help renew both body and soul. During their stay, an Andean shaman in an hour-long ceremony in the hotel’s gardens will guide them.

Using natural perfumes, singing in the Quechua language, and small gifts such as flowers, grains and candy, guests will have offered their thanks to Mother Earth in a moving ritual.
