1. The National Museum

Showcasing the long and vibrant history of Oman, this masterpiece is home to some of the most remarkable historical artifacts from the region. The beautiful structure opened its doors in 2016, and it highlights different eras and focal points with a collection of exhibits.

2. Sultan’s Armed Forces Museum

The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos inaugurated the museum in 1988. During your visit, learn about the past and present history of Oman’s Military from the Pre-Islamic period till the Renaissance era. Its collection spans with galleries of weapons, photographs, and important historical documents.

3. Bait Al Zubair

This fantastic museum allows you to take a closer look into the past and present of Oman’s history and traditions. Although small, be prepared to be mesmerized by an array of unique collections. Built from a private collection, the museum highlights the cultural customs of each of the 11 governates that surround the Sultanate, including household items, swords, rifles, coins, stamps, and maps.

4. Museum of The Frankincense Land

The Museum of the Frankincense Land based in Oman’s subtropical city of Salalah gives a comprehensive view of the Sultanate and its various governates. This historical UNESCO site covers the history of the frankincense trade as well as the geology of the region. Located by waterways, this is one you don’t want to miss!

5. Ghalya’s Museum of Modern Art

For an inexpensive fee, view a wide selection of interesting art pieces from local artists. You can also take a stroll through the history of Omani houses during the 60s and 70s. The charming museum reflects true Omani heritage and its layout with mazes and outer space makes for truly a unique visit.
