ROHM OPENS THE NEW 2018-19 SEASON WITH A GALA ZARZUELA STARRING PLÁCIDO DOMINGO

Season 2018-19 at the Royal Opera House Muscat opens with one of the greatest opera stars of the modern era, Plácido Domingo in a wonderfully entertaining evening of popular Spanish operetta-like musical plays called zarzuelas. Plácido spent his youth enthusiastically working in his parents’ zarzuela company and his love for this quintessentially Spanish art form with its compelling fusion of music, prose and dance remains close to his heart.

Royal Opera House Muscat opens with one of the greatest opera stars of the modern era, Plácido Domingo

Specially fashioned for the Royal Opera Muscat, Plácido Domingo’s Gala Zarzuela features the dance that everyone loves – flamenco! Fiercely proud, high-impact performers from one of the finest flamenco companies in Spain, Compañía Antonio Gades, will thrill the audience with their spectacular dramatic artistry. As the leading star in the programme, Plácido Domingo will sing romanzas as well as duets and trios with Grammy-Award-winning soprano, Ana Maria Martinez and tenor Arturo Chacón Cruz, winner of the 2005 Operalia competition. The music is played by the orchestra of the renowned Fondazione Arena di Verona under the baton of Spanish conductor, Jordi Bernàcer.

Plácido Domingo, the most famous living tenor in the world, has a special attachment to the Royal Opera House Muscat, forged when he conducted the orchestra at ROHM’s Inauguration in 2011. At that time, Maestro Domingo famously described the Royal Opera House Muscat as a “magnificent cultural gem”. The gala opening of ROHM’s 2018-19 Season marks the legendary superstar’s third engagement with the Royal Opera House Muscat; and, Plácido Domingo will return a fourth time this season, in February 2019 when he will sing Germont in La Traviata on two nights and conduct the Orchestra of Teatro Massimo di Palermo on a third night.

ROHM presents Plácido Domingo’s fabulous Gala Zarzuela on Thursday, September 6th and Saturday the 8th at 7:00 pm.  For further information and booking consult the ROHM website: www.rohmuscat.org.om
