It’s no secret that Oman is home to some of the best attractions for lovers of adventure. Those who reside in the country know that the thrill is never over as outdoor activities are endless. From coastal and mountainous views to scenic and historic terrains, whether you’re a beginner or an expert, there’s something for the pickiest of travellers. Here’s the low down on the best biking trails in and around Muscat.

1. Al Hamra

This terrain takes place in the heart of the Al Hamra village, surrounded by a lush oasis. Cyclists start their journey from Bank Muscat early morning, pedalling their way through back lanes and allies and into a quiet pathway, with a picturesque backdrop of hot springs flowing from the mountains.

2. Jebel Shams, Hajar Mountains

Taking you through the iconic Hajar Mountains, this trek welcomes thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies. Jebel Shams is a great escape for those trying to take a pause out of their busy life in the capital. The trek to the top is between 25-30-Kilometers, which makes it a serious climb. It’s terribly steep, so make sure you don’t look down.

3. Wadi Bani Awf

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful tracks in the country. Although it’s a steep climb with paved roads, the most challenging element is the headwind. It’s a bumpy ride with thrilling turns and twists on every corner. The most exciting element is taking the path going uphill and downhill before reaching the endpoint, which is past the Snake Canyon.

4. Falaj Al Sham, Al Ansab

If you are looking for a local trail, easily accessible within the city, and suitable for those just getting into mountain biking, then look no further than Falaj Al Sham. This hidden gem is a village tucked away in the mountains, about 7 kilometres outside of Al Ansab. Take the opportunity to look around the village, whilst exploring some old ruins, as you pedal through the beaten track.

One of these weekends, gather a group of friends, grab a bike and experience some of the best terrains that the sultanate has to offer.
