Mountains You Need To Visit In Oman

The mountains of Oman are true natural beauties that occupy major environmental spaces that stretch from the Northern parts of Oman all the way to the South. Whether you are a camping enthusiast who loves peaceful atmospheres, an avid traveller with a passion for rugged peaks, or a hiker seeking an adrenaline-pumping activity, you will find something for you in one of these three mountains.

Jabal Shams

Known as the highest peak in the Arabian Peninsula with a number of fascinating slopes an summits, making it a tourist’s favourite destination. One of the perks of camping or visiting this particular mountain is the beautiful weather that ranges from mildly hot summers to freezing-cold winters.

Fun fact: Jabal Shams is the first place to greet sunlight at dawn and the last to say farewell at dusk, which explains its naming, Jabal Shams (Sun Mountain)

Jabal Akhdar

Jabal Akhdar is another popular attraction that’s frequented by both locals and tourists. It is located about two hours away from Muscat, and can only be accessed with a 4×4 vehicle.

The green mountain has a lot of camping spots to relax, villages to explore, and locals to meet, and hosts two of Oman’s best hotels: Alila Jabal Akhdar and Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, where breathtaking mountain views are in abundance.

The mountain is blessed with a unique Mediterranean climate that rises to only 22 degrees Celsius, allowing it to produce a variety of seasonal fruits such as apricots, apples, grapes, plums, and pears. At the top of the list is the pomegranate fruit, which is classified among the finest of its kind in the world.
